The Media's Twisted Telephone Game

President Chester Alan Arthur (1881-1885) said, “If it were not for the reporters, I would tell you the truth.”

The Game

When I was a little kid in elementary school there was a game called Telephone. The first person would say a sentence and then go around a circle with other kids reciting what was originally said. The last kid would then say what he heard out loud. Oftentimes it would come back so misconstrued that it had nothing to do with the intent or context in which it was originally stated. How much more the “kids” that call themselves reporters through the state run media?

What Reporters Believe

Robert Lichter and Stanley Rothman, two media scholars, interviewed 240 news anchors, editors, and news writers, and here’s what they found out:

1) 47% of those that report the news in this country believe that adultery is okay.  That’s cheating on your spouse - Dad and Mom cheating on each other. Now, I am from a broken family, and I am sure that a lot of you listening to this are from broken families.  Did you know that the laws are not being enforced in this land?  In 28 states to this day, it is still illegal for folks to commit adultery on each other, but the laws have not been enforced since 1944.

2) 76% of those that report the news see nothing wrong with homosexuality.  All the way up until 2002, the laws on acts of sodomy were in tact.  They have now been overturned in this country.  Before 1961 this was illegal in every single state in this country.  They were rightly called “Crimes against nature.” Until 1973, it was also considered to be a mental illness.  Now what is the media pushing on you?  That it’s normal, when in truth it is not! (Romans 1:26-28) If you were busted in Rhode Isl and before 1961, you would go to prison for 15 years – the laws were very harsh. Click here to see our forefathers’ position regarding sodomy.

3) 90% of those that write your papers in this country believe there is nothing wrong with aborting a baby.  For those that didn’t know, until 1973 it was against the law to have an abortion.  Now we think it’s no big deal because that’s what you’re being taught.

4) 86% of those that write your paper in this country seldom or never attend church.

A few years ago, we had the opportunity to interview Don Shelby, a news anchor with WCCO in Minneapolis, and we asked him how he could tell right from wrong.  This was his reply, “If you are asking journalists to be an arbiter to decide differences of morality, you are asking the wrong people.  My job is to determine where fairness and justice is failing.”  Well, Don, how can you tell what’s fair or unfair, just or unjust, if you have no knowledge between what’s right and wrong?

Let me show you what the media’s meaning of fairness and justice is.

Richard Salant, former president of CBS news, said: “Our job is to give people not what they want, but what we decide they ought to have.”  That’s pretty arrogant, isn’t it?

Walter Cronkite, former CBS news anchor said, “News reporters are certainly liberal and left of center.”

Herman Dismore, foreign editor of the New York Times, said, “The New York Times is deliberately pitched to the liberal point of view.”

Richard Cohen, senior producer for CBS, said,  “We are going to impose our agenda on the coverage by dealing with issues and subjects that we choose to deal with.”

This Last Week

This past week I sent letters to media outlets who reported on my prayer at the MN House session. The following outlets (and many more unnamed) reported on me just like the Telephone game: Minneapolis Star Tribune, MSNBC, St. Cloud Times, City Pages, KARE 11, WCCO, KSTP 5, ABC News, etc.

What is interesting, and it should be of concern for every citizen in this country, is that not one, I said not one, of these media outlets called me and asked me any questions before reporting. This is not reporting; this is creating the story out of thin air because they “heard or read somewhere.” Once respected media outlets have again proven that they cannot be respected or trusted. Respect was once earned, however, this new breed of reporters think it’s given. These outsources have no credibility whatsoever. And people should take note of their intended  “propaganda.”

It Was Posted

On my website, we posted on June 3, 2010 a complete list of debunked lies by certain anti-American, George Soros funded, homosexual outlets such as “The Independent.”  Many of these outlets even referenced my website, and things that were on my website, but just happened to overlook what was written in the debunking of the lies that they themselves have again propagated. Some of these outlets were so twisted, fabricated, misconstrued, and so foul that I cannot even repeat what was written or what was said.

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow even went so far as to reverse her story from last year to this year, knowingly undoing what she quoted on my disclaimer. See Disclaimer

My Point

My point in writing this letter to you today is that the media must be held accountable for the misinformation given to the people. These reporters report as if God does not see or respond to their lies. (Galatians 6:7-8).

Now I can understand why so many media outlets are disrespected and are losing business by the droves. That is what happens when the lack of truth is in their articles. If these reporters do not know how to tell the truth, then they need to find another job. People are tired of the half-truths and blatant lies being promulgated on a daily basis throughout this country.

The Irony

The irony of the story with the elementary students is that at least the truth comes out after the other children ask the first kid what was originally said, which was lost going through all of the heads and mouths in the room. Apparently reporters have to go back and relearn how the game is played.
